Tuesday three boats of illegal immigrants landed in Malta making this year’s saldo of people coming in Malta higher than in the last two years.
In Malta, which is a member of European union, there lives under 400.000 natives and the density of population is by far the highest in EU. Illegal immigrants coming in boats stress the small island country’s resources and Malta has several times requested help from EU and EU-countries to help solve the problem.
In July 2006, the foreign minister of Malta, Michael Frendo pictured the situation as “extremely serious”.
